Opening a sensory gym was not something I had envisioned for myself early on—but when the opportunity presented itself, something about it immediately felt right. As someone who has always been passionate about supporting young people and creating safe, nurturing environments, the idea immediately sparked something in me.
For years, I have looked for meaningful ways to serve the community. Through my other business ventures and volunteer work, I have had the privilege of working closely with youth and families, especially those navigating unique developmental paths. So when I came across a vacant space that had previously been home to a sensory gym, I knew this could be more than just a business idea—it could be a mission in motion. After reflection and planning, I decided to move forward. That decision gave birth to Minds of Every Kind—a sensory gym, yes, but also something much more. It’s a place where neurodivergent children and their families can feel seen, supported, and empowered.
What Is a Sensory Gym?
If you’re unfamiliar with the term, a sensory gym is a specialized play and therapy space designed to support children—especially neurodivergent kids, such as those with autism, ADHD, sensory processing disorder, or developmental delays. These gyms are filled with tools and equipment that help children develop motor skills, regulate their sensory input, build confidence, and engage with the world around them in a way that feels safe and affirming.
Think of it as a mix between purposeful play and therapeutic support. It’s not just about fun—though there’s plenty of that—but about nurturing every child’s potential through intentional, sensory-rich experiences.
Why I Chose This Path: A Deeper Dive
As I explored the possibility of opening a sensory gym more seriously, three core factors made the decision feel inevitable:
1. Alignment with My Values
Every venture I take on must align with my core values—authenticity, inclusivity, growth, and community. I’ve learned that if a project doesn’t connect with my heart, it won’t last. Minds of Every Kind reflects everything I care about: creating spaces where children feel celebrated, not just accommodated; providing families with meaningful resources; and contributing to a community that sees difference as strength.
2. Sustainability and Long-Term Impact
Yes, every business needs to be financially viable—but I believe success should be measured by more than just profit margins. True sustainability means creating a model that can serve more families over time, grow organically, and continue to evolve with the needs of the community. This isn’t about a quick win. It’s about lasting impact. I see Minds of Every Kind as a long-term investment in the well-being of families and the future of inclusive play.
3. Confidence in My Capabilities
Experience, passion, and support—those are the three pillars I leaned on as I prepared to launch. I’ve worked with children across a variety of settings, managed teams, and built businesses before. I knew I could do this—and do it well—not because it would be easy, but because I cared deeply about doing it right. With a passionate, qualified team alongside me, I felt confident that we could bring this vision to life.
Why Minds of Every Kind Matters
There’s a growing awareness of the importance of neurodiversity—and with it, a growing need for spaces that understand, respect, and celebrate it. Families often struggle to find environments where their children feel accepted for exactly who they are. That’s where we come in.At Minds of Every Kind, we aim to remove barriers, reduce stigma, and create joy. We believe that every child deserves a place where they are not just welcomed, but deeply understood. Our goal is to provide that place—for every kind of mind.
